CBSE announced in a recent notice that upper age limit for appearing in JRF has also been raised by two years, i.e. from the existing upper age limit of 28 years to 30 years (the relaxation as earlier will remain same). The aspirants will have one month window to make applications for UGC NET 2018 and hence the application process would end on April 05, 2018. Another key change made by CBSE is that the number of papers in the examination has been reduced to two from earlier three. With the third paper been scrapped this also brings the duration of exam down by 2 hours.
Earlier, the NET consisted Paper I (100 marks), Paper II (100 marks) and Paper III (150 marks). Now, aspirants would have to appear for only Paper I (100 marks) and Paper II (200 marks). Paper-I will consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions each carrying 2 marks. The questions which will be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.
Paper-II will consist of 100 objective type compulsory questions each carrying 2 marks which will be based on the subject selected by the candidate. First paper will be conducted for 1 Hour from 09:30 AM to 10:30 AM and Second paper will be held for 2 Hours from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
The candidates will have to secure minimum 40% qualifying marks in the NET examination. Based on the qualifying marks, CBSE will prepare a merit list for each category and subject. Teaching community has welcomed the move and at the same time demanded that negative marking too should be introduced in the National Eligibility Test. The National Forum for Quality Education Mumbai said that it would request the HRD ministry and UGC to include negative marking like CAT, CSIR-NET, and GATE.
